Custom knit “ugly Christmas sweater” yarn bomb commissioned by the Fisherman’s Wharf Community Benefit District in San Francisco to promote Merrytime at the Wharf: various holiday events and festive atmosphere as well as a “Share the Warmth” coat drive for the homeless population of San Francisco. The custom design using the district’s branding palette and holiday colors featured featured iconic motifs including Dungeness crab, sea lions, shipping wheels, cable cars, waves, boat anchors, and holiday snowflakes. Installed for over a month with no damage or fading, this yarn bomb may be cleaned and reused or repurposed.

Technical info:
Hand loomed on a vintage Brother KH-270 KnitKing bulky gauge knitting machine.
Hand entered electronic knitting chart, stitch by stitch. Hand calculated placement of each motif.
Stranded color work “fake intarsia” knitting.
Hand sewn invisible mattress stitch seam.
Secured with light-duty staples.
