Just a quick note about two new great opportunities for you to learn fresh, modern craft skills. They both start August 6, one in person and one online, so you can take both!
Cycle in Skirts: Crochet a Bicycle Skirt Guard
If you’re near San Francisco on Tuesday, August 6, come pimp your bike with me at the Makeshift Society! This killer new venue for creatives is in one of the most vibrant parts of the city, near lots of great spots for dinner before heading over at 6:30 for a couple hours. You’ll get two hours of personal instruction and a kit with materials to make TWO large skirt guards, including a full-color pattern, crochet hook, tapestry needle, crochet thread, and clips to install the guard. We’re going to have so much fun together!

Yarnbombing: Creating Public Art with Yarn
Ever want to learn from a world-famous yarn bomber? You’re a crazy crafter reading this blog, so of course you have! If Philly/Oakland yarn bomber Jessie Hemmons, a.k.a. Ish Knits, doesn’t ring a bell, you’ve clearly been living under a rock. You’ve probably seen her work even if you don’t know it. Check out some of her most illustrious projects right here. Jessie just listed a self-paced online course with video lessons and project guides, also starting August 6. The class is held over at the new autodidact hang out called Skillshare, “a global community where you can learn real-world skills from incredible teachers.”

Also, thanks for everyone who voted in my webpage’s poll. Tons of you said you wanted to stay in touch on Ravelry, so good news! Now there’s a shiny new Knits for Life Ravelry group. I’m planning to do some knit- and crochet-alongs soon, so be sure to join and introduce yourself over here.
