Mural collaboration by Strider Patton and Knits for Life at Atlassian’s San Francisco new headquarters, installed in November 2018.
The three-dimensional piece marries string art (wool, Escutcheon pins), cut wood relief (pine plywood), and paint (low VOC acrylic paint). The string art pattern is an asterisk repeated over a grid, layered in six colors of Highland Peruvian wool.
This mural uses variety in form to tell a local story: Atlassian designed each of their six floors after a San Francisco neighborhood. Three stories tall, the mural serves to guide the viewer along the office’s focal staircase as they traverse the neighborhoods. Geometric and organic shapes, hard and soft materials, light and dark, warm and cool, the piece reflects the many sides of the Financial District, Golden Gate Park, and the Fillmore neighborhoods.
